Salmon Fishing

An old army buddy of mine asked me along on one of his fishing trips in Lake Michigan.

We fished for three days and ended up with 22 fish.. 2 of them were around the 20 pound mark.. half of them were 8 to 10 pounds (like the ones in my picture) and the rest were smaller.... shakers I think they called them.

Had a great time... check out the pics in my album.

Nice fish Predatim! I do more salmon fishing in the rivers than from a boat on the lake. The percentage of actually landing a fish is a lot less especially if you cant chase the fish as it runs. Lots of fun and you cant beat the scenery especially a sunrise out on the lake. I use to bowhunt in a place that overlooked the river that also ran thick with salmon. For a while you could be entertained by the salmon if the deer werent showing and even a lone fisherman here or there which was really surprising considering how far off the beaten path I was. Took a very wide 8 point buck from that stand, which was on state land, and the year after they clearcut an entire section of woods that included where I hung the treestand.

Do you plan to bake the salmon or smoke them?

Personally... I think the best fishing is on a river.... although it is a good
time hauling in one from the great lakes.

I usually grill them.... on foil or cedar plank.....

I have a new recipe where you brown them in a frying pan, season it
and then wrap it in rolled out bread dough and than bake... I think
it's called a salmon loaf.

Any way one does it it's still good eating!

Good eating thats for sure. Theres a lot you can do with salmon that even stands up to the taste test of those who claim not to like that fishy taste. Like my daughter who thinks all fish need to be deep fried with a thick batter of something sorrounding the fish.

Re: Salmon Fishing

We were able to get out on Lake Michigan again this summer for some salmon fishing... Mitch, my youngest son, was home on leave from Korea so my old army buddy from duluth brought his boat down to Algoma and we went out for a few days. Fishing was good... weather was good.... fun all around!
Check out the pics I added in my photo album... :)
